TEDx refers to locally organized events around the world that, building on the spirit of TED, create space for sharing inspiring ideas, personal stories, and socially relevant topics. The initiative is rooted in the belief that “ideas worth spreading” can shape communities and spark change.
In March 2025, TEDxDebrecen was held for the tenth time, marking a particularly significant milestone for the local community. The organizational process began nearly a year earlier, when SIXAGON joined the preparations at the invitation of curator Judit Kovács.
A Community-Driven Conference
What made the anniversary edition of TEDxDebrecen special was not only its speakers and program, but also the fact that the event was largely built on the collaboration of volunteers, local partners, and dedicated professional communities.
On March 23, 2025, the auditorium of the Csokonai Theatre was filled with participants open to personal stories, new perspectives, and social questions. The central theme of the conference was time: how it shapes us, how we leave our mark, and which decisions become defining in the long run.

Personal Stories and Social Questions on Stage
In his talk, András Süli spoke about the community-building power of music and the personal dimensions of the creative process. Through his own stories, he showed how music can become a form of self-expression, a point of connection, and an identity-shaping experience at the same time. His presentation strongly connected to the idea of how cultural experiences can have a lasting impact on both communities and individuals.
In his talk titled Good Enough Is Good Enough, Ákos Mikos explored the social and personal consequences of performance pressure and perfectionism. He reflected on how expectations we place on ourselves shape our everyday decisions, and why learning to accept imperfection as a natural human condition is so important. Many participants found his presentation highly relatable.
One of the day’s most socially focused talks was delivered by Nóra L. Ritók. As the founder and professional lead of the Igazgyöngy Foundation, she has spent many years working with communities living in deep poverty. In her presentation, she emphasized that sustainability and social responsibility cannot be separated from educational inequality and social exclusion. One of her key messages was that meaningful social change is achieved not through spectacular campaigns, but through consistent, long-term work.
What Does Pro Bono Support Mean in the Context of an Event Like This?
For SIXAGON, it was especially important to support the conference through pro bono, knowledge-based volunteer work.
The essence of pro bono collaboration is that participants contribute not primarily through financial support, but by offering their professional knowledge, experience, and networks in service of a shared community goal. In the context of an event like this, that may include strategic thinking, communication support, organizational expertise, or professional networking.

Knowledge-based volunteering can play a particularly important role in local initiatives that represent strong community values while operating with limited resources. The TEDxDebrecen anniversary event was a great example of how different professional actors can collaborate to create a high-quality yet community-centered and human-scale event.
What Remains After a TEDx?
The TEDxDebrecen anniversary conference once again demonstrated that the value of such an event cannot be measured solely by the talks themselves. Equally important is the environment it creates: a space for encounters, conversations, and new connections.
